Third Grade Escapade
Substitute For Truth: Third Grade Escapade.
I had a two-day assignment as a substitute teacher of third graders, and was nervous until I found them to be the most delightful class I had ever taught. On the second day, Haleigh, who had been perfectly fine the previous day, hobbled into the classroom on a well-bandaged foot. When asked, she informed everyone that she had sprained it by tumbling out of her father's truck. At "specials" time, the class had to make the great trek over to the library on the other side of the building. Needless to say this was a tedious journey, waiting for Haleigh to catch up. Therefore, I was inspired after library class to pick little Haleigh up and carry her up a hindering flight of stairs. She must have felt sorry for my huffing and puffing, as she offered to carry her own books after I put her down. Back in the classroom, much to my chagrin, she yanked off the bandage and said, "April Fool's!" It was one of the best tricks played on me yet, and by a mischievous third-grader.
