This is a poem that I wrote for the Poetry Challenge this week. My husband preached last night and reminisced about his Alma Mater, which was a unique school. They wore uniforms and on the blazer they had a badge with the school motto on it, and among other things, a tiny picture of three doves who had no feet, showing that we should never settle until we reach our goals. I hope you enjoy this poem, dedicated to Lawrence, My dear spouse.
THE LADDER
SURSUM PRORSUSQUE
Their motto for success
Onward and upward
Striving for their best
Three little doves
Worn upon their chests
Having no feet
Because it was their quest
To move ever forward
Constantly in flight
Striving for excellence
Trying with all their might
To reach for goals so lofty
Victory in sight
Humble, yet proud
To always do the right
Until their lives were over
The last time they would rise
Sit down in heavenly places
And claim the final prize.
