I am behind on poetry challenges. This is one from last week. Topic, "Cabinet".
THE LORD’S CABINET
The Holy book says to feast on the word
I don’t think there are muffins or lemon curd
But into the cabinet when I take a look
There is something to eat throughout the whole book.
He says for a salad there’s “lettuce” give thanks
And sincere milk of the word will fatten your shanks
Then needing your vitamins, where is the source?
The fruit of the spirit will follow the first course.
There’s peace, joy and love and even meekness
Then to the fruit salad, add loving kindness
Toss it all up and put faith on top
Eat it with temperance but never stop.
There’s the bread of life to go with your food
Meat for the strong, depends on your mood
Pour into your glass his wine of gladness
Then you’ll be merry, devoid of your sadness.
So when you go to a feast with the King
Look into his cabinet and find everything
That your hungry soul’s longing for
And each new day you’ll come back for more.
