To anyone who does not already read Ladydaughtery's blog, it would behoove you to go and take a look at it, and listen to the music she posted on it. I lived in South Africa for 28 years, and I felt like my reply was relevent, so I am posting it here as well...
Of course, I love this music, and most of all, the effort that was made to help the beloved country that I grew up in. If you have never been to or lived in a third world country, you will never know that the peace we have here is still a tangible thing.
In South Africa, one can literally feel and see the tension in the very atmosphere. People build high fences and have dogs in order to keep thieves and vandals at bay. One literally has to be on guard at all times when walking in public places, in case someone wants to snatch and run with a handbag. One is subjected to begging by little children and older people alike, in the streets, because they do not have the government assistence there for the homeless, orphans and disabled, as we do here. Therefore, they resort to gaining access to the commodoties for living in whatever way they can; I cannot altogether blame starving people for asking for the next bite, but there is an intense fear for one's own safety in such circumstances.
Yes, thank you God for our country, our beloved USA, thank you to the British Airways for endeavoring to keep us safe while travelling with them and in the airports, and last but not least, thanks to all of the kindhearted, generous, loving people who are willing to give of their excess to see a better life for others, and their children.
Lady, this has been another thought provoking blog, and I take my hat off to you. This is a resource to us, for we find inspiration from you and countless others, and it is a resource for you, so take time out to smell the roses and count your blessings, then the will and energy to work will be there, and you will get double the amount accomplished.
Go and read it to see what I mean; she is one fine lady, if you did not already know it.
