STARFISH
I am the bright, young star that helped to light the way
To a humble stable, so forlorn, in Bethlehem that day
Hearing the call from the master’s voice, I knew I had to serve
This the night I’d lead the Christ to the birthplace he’d reserved
Just as they had gotten settled, Jesus being born
I had to skitter off again –lead shepherds to him that morn
Then as they were kneeling there, worshipping the child
I had to go further afield, lead wise men for a while
This task was to take some time, maybe even years
And with the daunting journey gone, I listened to their cheers
As they presented the lad with gifts, knew they’d seen the Lord
Who had come to earth to reign, with love and not a sword.
With task in hand, I was replete, yet, weary and tired
The fire that had shone bright in me was not so gaily fired
So God offered me a place of rest and sweet repose
On a bed of sand, and a salty sea in which to stick my nose
Then, when I had lain a while, on the shores of Galilee
I looked up and beheld the Christ, looking down at me
With a twinkle in His eye he gazed down at my face
A starfish who had been used to help save the human race.
