Poetry Challenge Topic: Piecemeal.
PIECEMEAL
Torn asunder, limb from limb
Heart in a million shards
Shattered, as though beyond repair
Humpty-Dumpty-like, crushed.
Will King’s horses or King’s men
Be able to put me, piecemeal,
Back together again?
Tears shed until dry heaves
Pull at my aching sides
Doubling me over and while
I am down I lay prostrate
Before the only friend who is
Closer than a brother; the King
Himself, able and ready
Reaching tender, loving hands,
Scooping the bleeding
Remnants of a once vibrant
Heart, which beat in unison with
The whisper of His name.
He speaks a gentle word of
Command and I live
Not only as a shadow of the
Girl I used to be, but in
His sweet joy that overwhelms
Me with its vibrant intensity
Restoring my heart, my soul,
My mind and causes me to
Walk in the newness of life.
Lord, there is none like you; you
Bind up the brokenhearted and
Set the captive free.
