I was listening to the Christian station today and heard a program that was speaking to men, but found it to talk to me in a real way concerning accountability. It was very straightforward and to the point but it was funny as well, and will stick with me for a while, like a thick, juicy steak and fried potatoes.
The man said that he had been exposed to porn from a young age, and it had really messed with his mind. He said that when he got married, he expected his wife to make love on the hood of a car. He said that they never quite made it to the "hood" but that this "city" girl turned out to be more than his portion. God always gives us more than our share when we turn our lives over to him.
He said that in order to be the father he needs to be and the example for his kids, he has to stay in the word. When he can't persuade his wife that he is right, or he is just generally grumpy, she tells him to go out to the lake, "I think you need to go out to the lake, honey". They live on Lake Michigan, and she knows that when he takes his Bible out there with him, and reads and prays, he comes back, "putty in her hands" as God softens him up and makes him a gentler person, and is able to resolve conflict in a mature fashion.
This man also has all of the blockers on his computer and his wife asks him every now and then whether he has "seen anything you shouldn't have seen today, honey?" So many men would resent their wives for this, but he says they have this understanding, because the media makes it so easy to be just one click away from temptation. So, what really spoke to me, and I thought I would share with you, is that they now have a new policy in their home, and that is, "As for me and my mouse, we will serve the Lord". Are you and your mouse accountable? What do we hide in the closets of our lives? Could Christ come along with us, even in the dark of night, and take part in our activities?
It is an adventure turning our lives over to him; no more torture, no more torment, just peace, knowing he will tell us the next step to take. Whew! What a relief!
